Jelly Chen is a Brooklyn, New York based visual artist creating paintings and collages. Originally from Austin, Texas, she studied sculpture at Texas State University. After graduation, she travelled and lived abroad for 6 years teaching ESL in Hong Kong, Istanbul, Bali, and Shanghai. She met her husband while traveling in Thailand and they lived together in Shanghai before relocating to Brooklyn. Since becoming a New Yorker, she has focused on making paintings and raising a family. She is visually inspired by the art collection of the Metropolitan Museum, the paintings of Henri Matisse, and the illustrations in children’s books. Her ebullient ‘Fresh Art’ is characterized by animals with personality, patterns, plants, and a playful aesthetic.
